IBS Offers Technology-Enhanced Education to Students at Los Rios Community College (Implementation of IBM iSeries (AS/400) Hardware Systems Complete)
International Business Systems (IBS), the worldwide leader of wholesale distribution software for the IBM iSeries (AS/400), and Los Rios Community College today announced that the final phases of an IBM iSeries (AS/400) education partnership are complete. IBS US entered into the partnership project one year ago in collaboration with Los Rios and IBM in efforts to provide the local education community with the proper tools needed to prepare students entering into the information technology marketplace. As a leader in IBM iSeries (AS/400) hardware technologies and software development, IBS US strives to enhance and increase the resources of qualified IBM iSeries (AS/400) consultants and programmers locally. The implementation of the IBM iSeries (AS/400) in the local education community plays a strategic role in the spread of programming and technical expertise.
Due to an accelerated demand for ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions, the number of skilled RPG (Report Program Generator) programmers experienced in the IBM iSeries (AS/400) and midrange systems environment has fallen rapidly as software companies aggressively compete to acquire qualified candidates necessary to the future success of their product.
When IBM slated Los Rios Community College to receive the IBM iSeries (AS/400) hardware last year, IBS stepped up to assist in the implementation and training process by sharing its vast experience and expertise in IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems knowledge. Now that the implementation and preliminary training phases are complete, IBS continues to offer up its dedication to the community by providing guest lecturers and supplemental staff for teaching at Los Rios. By virtue of having experienced lecturers currently engaged in software development on the IBM iSeries (AS/400), instruction lends tremendous value to the technical education of the Los Rios students, while IBS benefits from those individuals interested in technology careers.
"Although Los Rios prides itself on focusing towards providing the education necessary for the high-tech industries, we have never had an IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform for students to use," said Janice Caston, Dean of Business at Los Rios Community College."This addition greatly enhances our ability to provide the technology education that our students are demanding." Los Rios adopted its own initiative titled,"Tech Force 2000," which aims to produce 1,000 technicians for high technology sectors throughout the Sacramento Valley. Additionally, Los Rios is also building several new computer labs at all three campuses, which are slated to open for the fall semester enrollment.
"IBS had the need, IBM had the program and Los Rios had the vision," said John Taylor, vice president of operations for IBS."The IBM program 'Partners in Education' along with the technology initiatives formulated by Los Rios will help to meet the needs of IBS and its customers," said Taylor.
