IBS launches powerful suite of internet tools to support electronic commerce in the distribution marketplace

Press Release Jan 04, 1999

New module garners industry attraction for interconnectivity support

International Business Systems (IBS), the worldwide leader of wholesale distribution software for the IBM iSeries (AS/400), announced today the release of Internet Connection, an integrated module of the company's demand driven supply-chain software solutions. After months of testing and joint development with client environments, the new suite of connectivity tools herald the ability for wholesale distributors to interchange commerce with their customers more effectively.

"Today's expansion of the electronic commerce landscape has begun to cascade the domain of every distributor, and to ensure a competitive position in the changing shape of the economy, customers need the capability to reach new corners of the market," said Lowell Feil, product manager at IBS US. Analysts and industry groups predict a surge of growth in EDI (electronic data interchange) systems and increased attention toward supply-chain automation.

Pilot trials of the Internet Connection suite proved to significantly reduce an organization's implementation time for electronic catalog publishing, transaction support, and hosting Web content."Within a few simple steps and a well-planned design, we accelerated the complete deployment of web access to one customer's inventory – allowing their customers to view real-time counts and conduct procurement transactions seamlessly," commented Feil. Because of the tight integration inherent to modules across the IBS application family, Internet Connection takes advantage of access to simplified data relationships which span the spectrum of financial and inventory repositories.

Built to integrate with IBM's Lotus Domino product, Internet Connection enables customers to experience a unified solution to Web access – reaching unparalleled strength to support enterprise applications and commerce activities. Core to the module's ability to publish content and manage data subscriptions, a robust messaging agent serves to bolster security and authentication activities – assuring integrity within the Web host.

Internet Connection has been released for general availability and can be ordered by contacting local IBS representatives in the Folsom, California or Columbia, Maryland offices.
