Most countries have laws and regulations that control the handling and transportation of dangerous goods. Any type of business that deals with such products will benefit from the features and support offered by IBS Dangerous Goods Handling. It enables you to create and store Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for dangerous goods and to produce TRansport EMergency (TREM) cards to use when distributing these goods to customers.

FULLY INTEGRATED FOR OPTIMUM EFFICIENCY

The application controls and keeps track of which documents are required for each product. In addition, the system automatically determines which languages need to be included in the MSDS and how the goods are to be freighted to the final destination, as well as the route that this shipment will follow.

FLEXIBLE DEFINITIONS OF MSDS

Laws and regulations that define the mandatory MSDS information concerning health, safety and environmental protection differ from country to country. For example, the information on American MSDS is divided into 10 sections, while those from the EU are divided into 16. To be able to fulfill these regional demands, it is possible to define the sections and sub-sections of each MSDS.

MSDS MAINTENANCE

Items that are classed as dangerous goods can be connected to an MSDS identifier. The identifier consists of different sections and subsections. Each subsection can consist of free text and/or different fields. These fields can be connected to a table that can be validated and have different printing requirements.

Version number – Each MSDS has a version number, indicating the restrictions that are in place for the sale and movement of dangerous goods. When important changes have been made to an MSDS, a new version number is then issued.

Log file – A supplier of dangerous goods is responsible for knowing which products have been sold to which customers, and is therefore responsible for documenting all sales of dangerous goods. The application controls this task automatically, logging sales per customer and allocating MSDS identification numbers to each.

Printouts – Since the supplier has to provide the customer with an MSDS when dangerous goods have been sold, printing of MSDS can be done automatically. MSDS are printed subject to the following criteria:

  • To all customers who have bought the dangerous goods for the first time
  • To all customers in the log file who have a lower version number than the current version in the log file

The log file is updated with the MSDS printing date and version number. MSDS printing can also be done manually. If the MSDS is active in the language defined for the customer, it is printed in that language.

TRANSPORTATION

When goods are shipped, law requires that a TREM card is printed for each of the items classed as dangerous goods and accompanies these throughout the journey.

The TREM card contains specific information, some of it extracted from the MSDS, related to the nature of the hazards and risks that the goods pose. In the case of an accident, for instance, information is related to personal protection, spillage, fire fighting, first aid and immediate action that should be taken by the driver of the vehicle and those that arrive on the scene.

MSDS can be printed automatically at the same time as the other standard freight documents are being sent to print.

ATTACHMENTS

Documentation and drawings can be attached to MSDS through attachment handling. An attachment can be viewed from wherever you work with MSDS.

LABELS

Details for the printing of item-specific labels for items classed as dangerous goods can be defined within IBS Dangerous Goods Handling and each definition can contain specified information from the MSDS.

LETTERS

Standard letters can be defined, to be sent to the customer independently from the delivery of the dangerous goods. These are mandatory when selling such goods to the customer for the first time, or when a new version of the MSDS is created.

LANGUAGE HANDLING

Like all IBS Enterprise software, IBS Dangerous

Goods Handling has full support for language handling. This means that customers receive all information regarding dangerous goods in the language of their choice, such as MSDS and letters. If the shipment of dangerous goods crosses different country borders, the TREM card is automatically printed in the appropriate predefined languages, based upon the setting of different factors such as from and to country, from and to warehouse, different manner of transport etc.
